Admiral Group plc is a European motor insurance company with offices in Cardiff and Swansea, Wales, and also in Seville, Spain. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is part of the FTSE 250 Index.
Admiral Insurance was formed in 1991 by Lloyd's agent Henry Engelhardt to offer car insurance direct to customers over the telephone. Admiral started selling policies over the telephone in 1993 and over the Internet in 1995. Since then several additional brands have been created within the group for niche markets:
- Bell Insurance for drivers with low no claims bonus
- Diamond Insurance for female drivers (although they also insure men)
- Gladiator Insurance for vans and commercial drivers

- confused.com for online automated price comparison of insurance from a panel of direct insurers
- Balumba.es Launched in late 2006 and based in Seville, Spain, Balumba caters specifically for the Spanish insurance market.
In 2004 Admiral Group made profit before tax of £101 million.
Since going public Admiral Group's share price has performed well, doubling in value within two years. When Admiral floated the share price was £2.75. The share price recently reached £10.00.
The company has consistently featured in the Sunday Times top 100 companies to work for.
